Bay Biotech provides consulting services for the Biopharma and Healthcare investment community, with a specific emphasis on early stage emerging technologies from within the San Francisco Bay area. As Principal, Dr. Desmond Raitt is a Research professional with over 13 years experience in academia (National Institute for Medical Research, London; Harvard Medical School and Dana Farber Cancer Institute), pharmaceutical industry (Vertex Pharmaceuticals, ALTANA Pharma), in addition to experience in Venture Capital and Consulting. Dr. Raitt was hired by Nycomed US, a global pharmaceutical client, to open its West Coast office here in San Francisco to evaluate and provide access to deal flow, licensing and M&A opportunities across all therapeutic areas.

As Senior Scientist, and subsequently as Project Manager with ALTANA Pharma, acquired by Nycomed in 2006 , Dr. Raitt led collaborations on several Oncology related projects with our strategic partner and managed a number of alliances with academics within the Harvard community focusing on Inflammatory diseases.  In addition, Dr. Raitt led a research group that established cell based assays for lead compound profiling in Oncology, Inflammation  and Allergic Rhinitis therapeutic areas.  At Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Raitt led efforts in Biomarker discovery and spearheaded novel approaches in Oncology target identification and validation.

More recently, Dr. Raitt had the privilege of being selected by Burrill and Company, a premier Life Sciences Merchant Bank, to join their Venture Capital group and help with healthcare investment strategy in 2007. He has also consulted for Venture-backed Biotech start-ups at UCSF Mission Bay Center for Bioentrepreneurship, and helped with platform development and access to Venture financing.
