Bay Biotech Consulting provides consulting services for the Start-up, Biotech and Life Sciences VC community, with a specific emphasis on early stage emerging technologies.  As Founder & Principal, Dr. Desmond Raitt is a Biopharma professional with over 25 years experience in academia (National Institute for Medical Research, London; Harvard Medical School and Dana Farber Cancer Institute), Biotech (Genentech, Biocision, HTG Molecular) and pharmaceutical industry (Vertex Pharmaceuticals, ALTANA Pharma, Nycomed, Ferring Pharma), in addition to experience in Venture Capital (Burrill & Co, venBio) and Consulting. We established the US West Coast Search & Evaluation office for Nycomed US, a global pharmaceutical client,  here in the UCSF Mission Bay campus to evaluate and provide access to deal flow, licensing and M&A opportunities across all therapeutic areas (focus on Autoimmune, Oncology and GI indications). Subsequently, we were engaged in a similar capacity by Ferring Pharmaceuticals (San Diego site).

More recently, Dr. Raitt led the out-licensing of core IP from UCSF and co-founded Seal Biosciences with scientific founder, Dr. Jeroen Roose, to develop a diagnostic assay for a candidate biomarker (RasGRP1) for response to anti-EGFR therapy in mCRC. He has also consulted for Venture-backed Biotech start-ups at UCSF Mission Bay Center for Bioentrepreneurship, and helped with platform development, grant writing and access to Venture financing.
